How to Light a BBQ with a Push-Button Igniter
**Please follow these steps carefully every time you use the BBQ grill.**
Before Lighting
- Remove the BBQ cover and place it in a safe, clean location.
- Open the BBQ lid completely.
- Ensure the propane tank valve is fully open by turning the tank knob counterclockwise (to the left) until it stops.
Lighting the Grill
- Turn one burner control knob (usually the left-most burner) to the High position.
- Immediately press the igniter button several times until the burner lights.
- Verify that the burner is lit by looking for flame and listening for the normal burner sound.
- Once the first burner is lit, turn on any additional burners needed for cooking.
If the Grill Does Not Light
- Turn the burner knob back to OFF.
- Wait at least 5 minutes for any accumulated propane gas to dissipate.
- Try again.
Never continue clicking the igniter while gas is flowing for an extended period without ignition.
Why the Lid Must Be Open
The lid must always be open during lighting. If propane accumulates under a closed lid, ignition can cause a sudden flare-up or small explosion.
After Cooking
- Close the lid and run the burners on High for approximately 10 minutes to burn off food residue and grease.
- Brush the grates clean.
Shutting Down the Grill
For the safest shutdown:
- Turn all burner knobs to OFF.
- Turn the propane tank valve fully clockwise (to the right) until it stops.
- Allow the grill to cool completely before replacing the cover.
Wait until you can comfortably touch the grill without feeling any heat before reinstalling the cover. This helps prevent damage to the cover and reduces fire risk.
Pro Tip: If the igniter ever stops working, most propane grills can still be lit manually by holding a long lighter near a burner while turning that burner knob to High with the lid open.
Thank you for helping us keep the BBQ clean, safe, and ready for the next guest.
